Title I State Testing Information

The following lists required state testing for each grade level at Dixie Elementary School:

Kindergarten: Kindergarten Readiness Assessment: The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment evaluates a student’s skills and aptitudes for kindergarten.  The assessment is required by the state.  The State of Ohio uses the information to gauge progress in kindergarten readiness statewide.  New Lebanon School District uses the information for educational planning for each student. The amount of time it will take to administer, score and input assessment item data will vary from teacher-to-teacher and class-to-class. There are three item types on the assessment and each item type will vary in length of administration. For selected response and performance task assessment items, it may take an average of 20-30 minutes per student to complete these items one-on-one. However, many performance task assessment items can be administered in small groups of children. For observational items, it may take an average of 20-30 minutes to rate a small group of children during regular classroom activities. It will take approximately one (1) hour per student to administer the KRA over a 7-8 week period. Parents will receive results of the Individual Student Report.

 Districts have the option of using the state-developed diagnostic or a vendor  assessment on the department’s approved list of diagnostic assessments to meet the state reading diagnostic assessment requirement. New Lebanon administers Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA)-Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Primary Grades. These tests, appropriate for students who have a firm grasp of foundational skills, adapt to the level of difficulty for each student. Growth: Reading K-2 tests typically consist of more than forty questions and provide an overall RIT score for the subject as well as sub-scores in each of the goal areas. The accuracy of these tests, along with the use of a vertical scale, allows the results to be used to measure student growth as well as current achievement level status. Growth: Reading K-2 tests can be administered three times per academic year and are aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards.

New Lebanon Schools also assesses students to identify giftedness. At second grade all students are administered the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (second edition)—NNAT2 uses progressive matrices to allow for a culturally neutral evaluation of students' nonverbal reasoning and general problem-solving ability, regardless of the individual student's primary language, education, culture or socioeconomic background assess a child's problem-solving and visual-spatial reasoning abilities instead of what he or she has learned in school. The NNAT2 evaluates these abilities through a series of questions that incorporate abstract shapes and designs.

Grade 3: Third Grade Reading Assessment: The Third Grade Reading Assessment evaluates a student’s skills in informational reading, literary reading and writing.  A passing reading score on this assessment meets the requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee in Ohio that requires third graders to be retained if reading proficiency isn’t reached (MAP testing scores may also be used to meet the Guarantee requirement).  This assessment is required by the State of Ohio to gauge reading proficiency and to evaluate a school’s performance.  New Lebanon School District uses the information to evaluate reading programs and planning for each student.  The duration of the assessment is approximately 180 minutes and the results will be disseminated to parents approximately 2 months after the assessment.

Third Grade Math Assessment: The Third Grade Math Assessment evaluates a student’s skills in the following areas: multiplication and division, numbers and operations, fractions, geometry, and modeling and reasoning.  This assessment is required by the State of Ohio to gauge math proficiency and to evaluate a school’s performance.  New Lebanon School District uses the information to evaluate math programs and planning for each student.  The duration of the assessment is approximately 150 minutes and the results will be disseminated to parents approximately 2 months after the assessment.
