DON WAMPLER
PLAYER 1938 - 1942
  • 8 Varsity Letter (4-Basketball,4-Baseball)
  • Basketball- 4 year letterman; Became only the 2nd Freshman to make the varsity team; Made All-County Team as a sophomore; Made 1st Team Montgomery County as a sophomore and senior; 1942 named Montgomery County MVP and Outstanding Senior; Montgomery County Champions in 1942; District Runner-Up in 1942; Became the second team in Dixie History to win County League and Tournament
  • Baseball- 4 year letterman and 3 year starter; Played first base and pitcher; Played alongside the great Lloyd Gearhart
  • College- offered a basketball scholarship from Denison University before entering the US Army
  • COACHING- volunteered at Dixie High School, under the legendary Columbus Hines, in the 1950’s and 1960’s

  • Basketball: 3 yr. letterman and starter for Coach Columbus Hines; Overall record of 55-11 in his three seasons; 8th on all-time scoring list with over 1,100 career points; 9th on all-time rebounding list with over 400 career rebounds; 1st Team Montgomery County League 1963-1964; 1st Team Dayton Journal Herald 1963-1964; 1st Team Dayton Suburban League 1964-1965; 3rd Team Dayton Daily News 1964-1965; Member of the 5th ranked team in the 1965 final Associated Press Poll; Won final Montgomery County League Tournament in 1964; District Runner-up in 1964
  • Football: Two year starter and letterman at Off. And Def. End; 1st Team Dayton Suburban League 1964; 1st Team SW District 1964; 2nd Team All-Ohio 1964 (first player from Dixie HS to receive All-State honors in football)
  • Baseball: Four year starter and letterman in the infield; Member of State Semi-Finalist team in 1964 (Only Dixie baseball team to compete in the State Tournament)
