New Lebanon Schools Initial Reopening Plan 7.2.20

We have been closely monitoring current health conditions in our area and the guidance provided by governmental and health authorities.  As you know, we continue to learn more about COVID 19 and experience changes in guidance nearly every week.

To help our families prepare for the 20/21 school year, we have developed an initial plan for return to school in August.  Please be aware that we fully expect this initial plan to change as health conditions and guidance change during July and early August.

Masking has been a subject of much debate locally and nationally.  Our initial plan addresses masking in accordance with current state guidance.  Once the guidance document announced by the governor today becomes available, we will carefully review the details in addition to working with the Montgomery County Board of Health to solidify masking rules.

Wearing a mask helps to reduce the risk of those who may be infected (and may have no symptoms) from infecting others, especially when social distancing is compromised.  New Lebanon Schools have a number of students, staff, and family members who will be at high risk if infected with COVID 19.   Given the recent rise in national COVID 19 cases, the spike in Montgomery County cases, the recently enacted masking ordinance in Dayton, and the risk to so many people, student/staff masking expectations are very likely to change.

We encourage parents to help their children become accustomed to masks as appropriate during the weeks leading up to the beginning of the school year.

We hope that this initial plan will help parents prepare for the coming school year and make decisions about the options available for students.
