June Parent Update

posted Jun 16, 2020, 9:34 AM by Greg Williams

We are busy planning for the start of the 20/21 school year.  Although state health guidelines are still undefined, we are hopeful that we will be able to return to a full daily and weekly schedule for all students.  We will have enhanced cleaning and health protocols in place to minimize the spread of infection.

We are also making improvements to our online learning processes.  The feedback we received from the parent survey was very helpful.  It appears that we may need to have online opportunities available under some circumstances for students next year and we will strive to support students and parents with the best instruction possible.

We will provide more information as guidelines and plans for next year become more defined.

New Lebanon Local School District maximizes the use of State and Federal funding to keep local levy funding low.  New Lebanon Schools have not asked voters for additional funding since 2006—the longest term for any Montgomery County District.

New Lebanon Schools will be on the ballot this year for a renewal—no new taxes.  The renewal continues the existing funding for schools.  We encourage all of our parents to register to vote so that everyone has a voice in continuing existing funding for New Lebanon kids.

Voter registration forms can be found at the Montgomery County Board of Elections website.

Summer Food Programs

In addition to the New Lebanon Schools summer food program that runs through the end of June, two additional food programs will continue to operate through the summer.  The Y on the Fly Food program will provide food for families every Tuesday from 10 am to 11:30 am through August 10th—the Y on the Fly truck will be in the Dixie Elementary School parking lot on Tuesday mornings.  The New Lebanon Branch of the Dayton Metro Library will be a pickup site for meals for students 2 to 18 on Mondays starting June 22—please contact the library for additional information.

The New Lebanon Schools food program will provide meals on June 22nd and June 29th before closing for the summer.  Please be sure to make your New Lebanon food service request for meals on Thursday or Friday of the preceding week.

Summer Sports

Summer strength and conditioning workout sessions have begun for high school and middle school athletes.  Our athletic director, trainer, and coaches have implemented health practices to minimize the transmission of infections while allowing students to prepare for sports and enhance their overall fitness.  Dixie athletics offers opportunities for students to build collaboration, leadership, and physical skills in a supportive environment for many skill levels.  Please contact Mr. Rhodus if you would like more information about high school and middle school athletics.

Summer Hours

Dixie School offices will close for the month of July.  Offices will open for the 20/21 school year on August 3rd.  If you have questions or requests during the month of July, please contact the district office at 937 687 1301.
