GREYHOUND Softball to play for a District Championship!

Congratulations go out this morning to the Varsity Greyhound Softball team and coaches.  The girls defeated Waynesville last night, by a score of 7-6 in 8 innings, to win the first Sectional title since 2002.  The girls have now advanced to play in the District Final this Friday, May 20th @ Eaton HS vs. Northwestern at 5pm.

Last night's game did not get off to a very positive start.  Emotions were running at an all-time high considering we had four seniors on the team that also had Commencement last evening.  Several early errors led directly to Waynesville holding a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning.  However, through great leadership from Coach Wylie and Coach Ruppert and an unbelievable display of grit and determination by the girls, the team started digging out of the hole.  The girls scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score.  Neither team scored in the seventh inning so the game was off to extra innings.  Celeste Runnels pitched magnificently and held Waynesville scoreless again in the top of the eighth inning.  McKinlee Ruppert led the bottom of the eighth inning off with a solid single to left field.  After the left fielder misplayed the ball, McKinlee ended up at third base with nobody out.  Amara Wylie, a senior, stepped to the plate with the chance to be the hero.  With a 1-1 count, Coach Wylie put on the squeeze play, Amara layed down the perfect bunt, and McKinlee crossed the plate well ahead of the throw and the Greyhounds were advancing!!!  An unbelievable comeback from a 6-0 deficit to walk away with a 7-6 victory.

The Greyhounds have now advanced to the District Final this Friday.  Game time @ Eaton will be 5 pm.  Tickets at the gate are $6 and there is NO pre-sale.  Please take the time to come out on Friday and cheer the girls on to their first District Championship!!!

GO GREYHOUNDS!!!
