February Parent Update

posted Feb 12, 2021, 12:09 PM by Greg Williams

The winter weather is here in a big way.  Please be sure to review plans with your children in the event that school is canceled or in the event that school is dismissed early.  We are currently on calamity day 3.  We will begin “blizzard bag” online lessons if we reach day 6.

Winter mornings have been very cold.  Please be sure to contact your school if your family needs help with obtaining warm jackets, hats and gloves for the trip to and from school.

Free and Reduced Lunch Forms

The district percentage of students qualified for free/reduced lunch is still significantly lower than typical years.  This percentage is used to determine federal funding for the district.  If your child has participated in the program in past years, or you think your family may qualify this year, we encourage you to fill out an application for this year so that state and federal agencies have accurate data to determine school funding for next year.  The electronic application can be accessed by visiting the Parent/Student resources section of the district website.

Remote Learning Days: February 25 and 26

All in-person students will be learning from home on February 25th and 26th.  Dixie staff will be receiving vaccinations on the 25th.  Due to the significant percentage of people who have a moderate reaction to the vaccine that would cause them to miss work the next day, the 26th will also be a remote learning day to avoid the need to place students in groups larger than our typical classrooms for supervision and instruction.

New Lebanon Counselor Recommended Resources

The Dixie counseling staff strives to support student and family mental wellness through a variety of supports and resources.  Please take a look at the recommendations for February.

With the increase in the use of technology, the need for parents and students to recognize when electronic communication is used to manipulate students is more important than ever.
